John Harry "Doc" James, Founder

Pond Creek Veterinary Clinic was established by John Harry James in 1960.  “Doc” James grew up nearby, in Jefferson, Ok and graduated from OSU College of Veterinary Medicine in May 1960.

After graduation, Dr. James could not find a vacant building on Main Street Pond Creek available to rent.  He set up temporarily in the front of a chicken hatchery, located beside the current First State Bank, for three months. He had a painted paper sign in the window, a fourteen dollar refrigerator, a temporary sink that drained into a five gallon bucket and homemade equipment. He began a business that has grown and expanded for over 50 years.

Pond Creek Veterinary Clinic soon moved to a small store front down the street, where Dr. James saw a few pets, but predominantly had a large animal ambulatory practice, traveling to farms all over northwest Oklahoma.  After one and a half years following graduation, a permanent facility had been built on the west side of town where the practice is today.  Pond Creek Veterinary Clinic has changed, expanded and enlarged many times over the years to what it is today.

“Doc” James has been acknowledged in various ways for his knowledge and innovative ideas regarding large animal medicine over the years.  Aside from the recognition he has received, his renown will always be his genuine love of veterinary medicine and the selfless commitment to his clients and their animals.  He has willingly served generations of families, night and day, with pay or without, for over 50 years.  Though times have changed many things over the years, his commitment to serve the people of northwest Oklahoma and southern Kansas has not.  This desire can be seen today in the current doctors and staff at Pond Creek Veterinary Clinic. Pond Creek Veterinary Clinic is committed to providing our clients with personalized care, honesty and the best service we can provide when you need us.
